Why My Adjustment Only Takes 1 Minute and 48 Seconds by Dr. Mike

I get my spine adjusted two to three times a week and have for years.
Once you know how amazing life is when you’re standing taller and feeling lighter, it’s hard to pass on a great adjustment.

I have a scoliosis in my upper back, which means my spine curves and twists to one side. I have no lordosis in my lumbar spine, so sitting for prolonged periods, unless I do it perfectly, is a no-go for me.

I have one leg longer than the other. If you put me in a world with no landmarks and had me start walking, I would walk in a circle.

I have one shoulder higher than the other; the result of my scoliosis and a wrestling injury I had when I was younger.

My spine is messed up.

When I get adjusted, I need my hips balanced and un-rotated, my lower back pushed forward to give it some healthy curve, my scoliosis shifted back into a straight alignment, all of my twisted upper ribs moved into place, my right shoulder blade realigned, and neck dropped forward to give it some healthy curve, too.

And it only takes about 1 minute and 48 seconds.

Getting the spine back into the most proper alignment it can have at that moment doesn’t take long because that’s not the hard part.

The hard part is keeping it there.

And it’s our job to help our patients do just that through prescribed exercises and therapies.

One of our go-to therapies is traction—which is designed to restore the health of a joint and relieve tension by increasing space (decompression) between the vertebrae in the spine.

We also have an arsenal of prescribed exercises that our patients do during their appointment, as well as at home.

And we don’t stop there. We help guide our patients to better habits when sitting, sleeping and standing—because all of these things contribute to you getting the best results you can possibly get from chiropractic care.
