A college injury during springboard diving left Dr. Karen Bisesi with a neck and shoulder injury that couldn’t be resolved by the many health practitioners she visited. Athletic trainers, medical doctors, ...physical therapists, orthopedists, and others tried various treatments, including ultrasound and cortisone shots, but nothing helped. Eventually, Dr. Karen visited a chiropractor who helped her recover. In addition to resolving her neck and shoulder pain, the migraines she had experienced since childhood went away and never returned. Looking back, she considers the injury a “blessing in disguise” because it led her to her calling as a Doctor of Chiropractic.
Dr. Karen earned her Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine from Pepperdine University, where she worked as a student athletic trainer for the men’s basketball and volleyball teams. She later attended Palmer College of Chiropractic West before transferring to National University of Health Sciences in Chicago, where she graduated with honors with her Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1995.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Karen has worked with patients of all ages and a wide range of injuries and conditions. She has a special focus on athletes, from weekend warriors to professional competitors, and has served as the official team chiropractor for professional indoor soccer and hockey teams, as well as athletes with the Indianapolis Colts and IndyCar drivers. She is also a Certified Chiropractic Extremity Practitioner with postdoctoral training in the evaluation and treatment of the extremity joints, including the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles. Dr. Karen is also board certified and licensed in acupuncture.
Dr. Karen believes being a Doctor of Chiropractic is a calling and feels privileged to help patients who may have lost hope in their body’s ability to heal. She takes a natural approach to health and healing, helping patients understand their bodies while providing strategies to support their long-term health and well-being.
Outside of practice, Dr. Karen continues to expand her knowledge by attending seminars and spending time with her three sons, all of whom have received chiropractic care since birth. She also has a deep appreciation for nature and considers snorkeling with her family in Maui, surrounded by sea turtles and dolphins, one of her most inspiring experiences.
