West Addison

Education: Palmer College of Chiropractic

Hometown: Oakland Township, Michigan

Unlike the busy city life he's used to now, Dr. Jacob Matrille grew up in a quiet farming community up north. Surrounded by country roads, his first job was carrying bales of hay for the farmer across ...the street. His childhood taught him how to appreciate nature, biology and the joys of hard work—something he'll be forever grateful for.

However, as he got older, a love of different backgrounds and diverse experiences brought Dr. Jake to Chicago. He loves meeting new people and hearing their stories. This is only one of the reasons he's so thrilled to be helping patients and community members as chiropractic director of Chiro One Wellness Center of West Addison.

As a child, chiropractic helped with his asthma problems and kept him in good shape for sports. But even more impactful was seeing the change it had on his mother's life. Growing up, he witnessed his mom struggling with severe, chronic migraines. It was a constant, painful struggle for her, but after chiropractic, everything changed. Now she's pain free and a top Ironman triathlete who competes across the globe.

If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.

Malcolm X

Initially, Dr. Jake dreamed of being a psychologist. With this mindset, he achieved his bachelor's in psychology at Michigan State. However, he found working at the local crises center extremely challenging and ended up shifting his focus to chiropractic—a different way of helping people that he'd always loved. Dr. Jake went on to earn his doctorate of chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic, where he received top honors as a magna cum laude graduate.

In practice, Dr. Jake's mission is to improve quality of life for his patients—whether that means playing with their kids again, taking walks with family members or just being in a better mood with full energy. He truly wants to see everyone live their best life instead of going through the motions. That's why his favorite part of being a chiropractor is seeing patients able to do things they thought they could no longer do. He lives for those post-treatment x-rays that show a patient's improvement; it's one of the most fun and fulfilling parts of his job.

Dr. Jake is incredibly passionate about making chiropractic accessible for everyone. In fact, he was part of a mission trip to Madagascar during his study abroad, where he helped those in need through chiropractic. This was an experience he truly treasures, because he believes chiropractic is for all. "After all," says Dr. Jake, "Chiropractic isn't reserved for only the rich or the insured, but everyone has a right to better themselves with chiropractic care."

In his spare time, Dr. Jake has his hands pretty full with his young daughter, and he's also incredibly dedicated to and passionate about giving back to the community. He's volunteered for assisting at the Special Olympics, The Listening Ear Crises Center and various LGBT groups. As a committed athlete, he coaches many adult leagues around Chicago, such as beach and indoor volleyball, kickball, softball and ultimate Frisbee. He's also run a total of nine marathons, and is hoping to get to number 10 next year.

Dr. Jake is also huge advocate for organ and tissue donation. In fact, just this year, he donated one of his kidneys to a close friend in need. When asked about the experience, Dr. Jake says, "A lot of people ask me, 'How'd you do that?' and it's really simple. I truly want to be the change I wish to see in the world," Dr. Jake shares. "Start with what you can do for yourself and then spread it to the people close to you, and it'll keep growing from there."
