What to Expect at your first Chiro One Appointment

It’s time.

You’re ready.

You really want to feel better.

And if you’ve scheduled your first appointment at a Chiro One clinic, you’re well on your way to finding the relief you’ve been looking for. Your first Chiro One appointment is an especially important one because this is when your care team will take time to understand your current health status as well as your lifestyle and long-term wellness goals.

Once they do, you and your doctor will sit down and create a personalized care plan to help you reach those wellness goals and live a healthier life.

Why is your first Chiro One appointment so important?

At Chiro One, our patients achieve great outcomes because we take the time to understand all the elements that are contributing to their pain. It may be due to a past injury, holding a toddler for hours at a time, or just sitting or standing for long periods of the day at your job. Each of these elements leads to different neuro-musculoskeletal stressors that can cause pain and muscle dysfunction.

Only by performing a thorough initial exam can you and your doctor understand the root cause of your pain. That, in turn, enables your doctor to create an effective, personalized care plan.

Here’s what to expect when you arrive at your Chiro One clinic:

  1. Complete the Health & Wellness Questionnaire

Our new patient questionnaire helps your care team get a full understanding of your health — so your care plan can be customized to meet your needs.

The Chiro One health assessment questionnaire covers your:

  • Health History: Pain history, past injuries, sports history, underlying medical conditions and health concerns
  • Current Lifestyle: Daily activities, work, exercise, habits, nutrition and stressors
  • Health Goals: Lifestyle goals, fitness targets, athletic goals, and pain relief goals

Completing the questionnaire will take 10-15 minutes, and it is time well spent. The information you provide helps your Chiro One doctor create the perfect personalized care plan – for YOU. A plan that addresses your specific needs and ways to relieve your pain.

If you would like, you can complete your questionnaire prior to your first visit. Just ask for a copy of the form when you make your appointment or download it here.

  1. Tour the Clinic

Once you submit the questionnaire, you’ll be given a quick tour of the clinic. A member of your care team will walk you around. And as you’ll see, there are:

  • Private exam rooms, where you have your physical exam and discuss your treatment plan
  • In-clinic X-ray room, so you can have your imaging done on-site
  • Adjustment area, with state-of-the-art tables and equipment
  • Active therapy area, where you’ll see a variety of in-clinic therapies
  • Kids’ activity area, where kids can hang out and color while their parents are getting care
  1. Receive a Thorough Exam

Next, you’ll join the chiropractic technician and doctor in a private exam room for your physical exam.

The physical exam includes a complete neuro-musculoskeletal assessment consisting of a:

  • Posture evaluation to identify any deviations from normal alignment
  • Functional movement test to evaluate fundamental movement patterns
  • Bilateral weight test to determine an imbalance in spinal muscles
  • Range of motion test to determine how well you can move your joints
  • Set of X-rays, if needed, that allows the doctor to pinpoint the exact source of pain and/or dysfunction

“Only 10% of your nervous system perceives pain. Administering a thorough, up-front evaluation allows us to diagnose conditions before they become chronic. X-rays allow us to identify malformations of the spine and to diagnose the cause of pain. Digital imaging also enables us to rule out medical causes of pain such as fractures, dislocations, etc.,” said Sam Wang, Doctor of Chiropractic and COO of Chiro One Wellness Centers.

At the end of your first visit, you will schedule your second visit, which we recommend for the following day.

Moving on to your second appointment…

When you arrive for your second appointment at Chiro One, you’ll sit down with your doctor in a private exam room to discuss your exam findings and your personalized care plan. This visit takes approximately 45 minutes. In that time, you will:

  1. Learn How the Neuro-Musculoskeletal System Functions

Your doctor will walk you through a 3-minute video that shows you how a healthy neuro-musculoskeletal system functions, as well as the impact of misalignments.

  1. Review the Doctor’s Findings

Next, your doctor will review your exam results and findings. You’ll compare x-rays of your neck and/or back to those of a perfectly aligned spine and identify any disparities.

Many patients find this to be an insightful and empowering meeting. Not only do you get to the root of your pain, but, in many cases, you also find out new information that guides you on your path to better health.

During this session, feel free to ask questions – this is your time to get the answers you need. Our doctors are passionate about what they do and are happy to talk through the details and explain precisely how you can benefit from our chiropractic care.

  1. Receive Your Personalized Care Plan

Now that you have been well informed on how the neuro-musculoskeletal system should function and have reviewed your x-rays, you are ready to receive your personalized care plan. Each personalized treatment plan at Chiro One includes a combination of gentle chiropractic adjustments and in-clinic, active therapies. This combination of adjustments and therapies is important for a couple of reasons:

  • Gentle chiropractic adjustments realign the spine, relieve your pain, and improve your body’s overall function.

  • In-clinic, active therapies help strengthen your muscles, improve balance and motion, and promote long-term muscle memory.

Together, this combination promotes lasting results, so you can relieve your pain and improve your overall health.

The duration of our treatment plans varies but averages 3 months depending on your individual needs. Most patients visit the clinic 2-3 times per week. Each visit takes about 45 minutes and includes both adjustments and therapies.

  1. Review Your Insurance Coverage

Since you provided your insurance information on the first visit, your clinic team will have your coverage details ready for your review. For most patients, insurance will cover a good portion of their care. But we will walk you through your specific coverage and call out any out-of-pocket costs and/or deductibles so you have a full understanding of the payments. If you don’t have insurance, we will work with you to create an affordable care plan that fits your budget.

  1. Schedule Your Treatment Appointments

Once your doctor has laid out your care plan, you will schedule your appointments. You may even be able to get your first adjustment that same day.

When you leave…

After completing your first two visits, you will have:

  • A thorough understanding of your current health state and exam findings
  • Detailed imaging results
  • A personalized care plan provided by the doctor
  • Appointments scheduled for your upcoming visits

Patients often say they’re exhilarated after their second visit. That’s because getting to the root cause of your pain with a non-invasive, drug-free solution that helps relieve that pain while improving your body’s ability to function is a pretty powerful feeling.

“After a few months of treatments, I can say with certainty that my personalized care plan has turned my life around. It all started with the first visit, where I felt like I finally got the answers I was looking for.”
