We are constantly bombarded with foods that shouldn’t have any place on our plates. Fast food restaurants on every corner. Commercial after commercial with the next fast, cheap or easy dinner. Aisles filled with products that have ingredient lists longer than some of our blogs.

For these reasons, and many others, it can be really, really, really hard to stick to a healthy diet. We want to help. In the beginning, you just have to start, put one foot forward and get motivated.

What Happens to the Body When You’re Eating Healthy

One of the best ways to stay on track is to notice the amazing things happening to your body once you start eating well! Here are just a few of the positive side effects people see once they’ve cut the junk out of their life. You’ll find you:

  • Experience a big boost in energy
  • Stop having a mid-day crash
  • Fall asleep faster and sleep better
  • Feel mentally sharp and clear
  • Crave less salt and taste more flavor
  • Notice a more positive mindset and outlook
  • Lose weight without “trying”

You’ll also start to notice how you feel when you eat something not so great for you. You may feel sluggish, get a headache or become bloated. Suddenly, you’re hyper-aware of your body and you’ll crave that healthy, energized feeling you get from eating well.

Tips on How to Stick to Healthy Eating Habits

You can be your own worst enemy when it comes to sticking to your healthy eating plan. Defend yourself from yourself! Use these tips to help keep you in line:

  • Use a large (24 oz. or bigger) water bottle, glass or jar to keep your water consumption up and hunger pangs down
  • Put a calendar on the fridge and write out meals for the week
  • Spend time on Saturday or Sunday prepping for meals throughout the week (a food processor is an amazing tool to help speed up the process)
  • Move your fruits and veggies from the bins to the shelves (yes, yes, we know that they go bad faster on the shelves, but how many times have you tossed forgotten-about produce?)
  • Always have pre-cut fruits and veggies, hummus and nuts on hand for an easy snack
  • Indulge from time-to-time! Seems counterintuitive, but allowing yourself that cupcake or piece of pizza can help you stay on track the rest of the time. Forbidding all the bad-for-you-but-tastes-so-good foods will set you up for failure
