Chiropractic Therapies: The Stair Stepper
Here at Chiro One, we know that a healthy life starts with a healthy spine. That’s why we offer chiropractic adjustments… and we complement these adjustments by also prescribing active therapies. These exercises (and the ways they’re performed) depend on each patient’s needs and are prescribed by our doctors of chiropractic.

To take a closer look, we got together with chiropractic director of Chiro One Oak Brook, Dr. Jill Pickens, and she broke down five of our most-prescribed therapies—detailing the possible whats, whys and hows behind each one!

Let’s take a look at one of our most popular exercises: the Stair Stepper.

The Stair Stepper with Dr. Jill

Hey, guys! I’m Dr. Jill from Chiro One Wellness Center in Oak Brook, and I’m going to show you a piece of equipment that you’re going to see in our offices. It’s called the stepper.

There are a few different ways you can use it. The first way is for strength and endurance. To do this, you have to maintain good posture and hold the little rail on the wall for balance and support. Then you go ahead and take some large steps. You might do this for a specified amount of time. What this is doing is allowing the muscles of the lower legs to get stronger. It’s also coordinating good posture with our lower back, pelvis and our upper back, too.

You can also use this in a corrective sense to work on a mirror image posture. This involves leaning over to the side and looking straight ahead. This is giving input to the brain (through some neurological patterning) that we want the body to be over to the side. So it’s important to take smaller steps for this one and we definitely want to be holding on to this rail. For it to be most effective, we have to make sure that we’re maintaining good posture while we’re holding our balance.

Every doctor prescribes therapies at Chiro One for your unique presentation and what you have, so you may or may not do this therapy, and you may do it completely different from what I showed you today.
