Dr. Maia Sharashidze is a board-certified Chiropractic Physician. Originally from Georgia (Eastern Europe), she graduated from Tbilisi State Medical University as a Medical Doctor before moving to Chicago where she earned her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the National University of Health Sciences.
Growing up in a family of doctors had a significant impact on Dr. Maia’s career path. Being surrounded by healthcare professionals inspired a sense of purpose and a desire to follow in their footsteps. Their influence is seen in Dr. Maia’s approach to patient care. Her patients value the time she spends with them, gaining an understanding of their unique concerns so she can provide tailored treatments. She also prods herself on her professionalism and expertise, which enable her to provide effective solutions for pain relief, injury recovery, and overall wellness in a manner that inspires trust and confidence in her patients and her team.
As a chiropractor, Dr. Maia defines wellness as more than the absence of disease or pain. For her, wellness requires a holistic approach to physical, mental, and emotional well-being, with an emphasis on balance, proper functioning, and optimal health.
“I defined wellness as the dynamic and ongoing process of making conscious choices toward a balanced, healthy lifestyle, one that encompasses both physical wellness – ensuring the body is functioning optimally through regular movement, exercise, proper nutrition; and emotional wellness – recognizing and processing emotions in a healthy way and maintaining strong relationships and positive environment.”
As a chiropractor, Dr. Maia takes special care to maintain her own health and wellness, as they are crucial to providing effective care to her patients and preventing burnout. She protects her body and her posture with good ergonomics and proper body mechanics during her workday, especially when performing adjustments, in order to prevent musculoskeletal strain.
Since her job requires physical exertion and sometimes repetitive movements, she exercises regularly, putting special emphasis on core strengthening and flexibility exercises in order help her stay strong and prevent injuries. She recommends Pilates, or specific exercises for spinal health as especially beneficial. And of course, she receives regular adjustments to help maintain her own spinal alignment, mobility, and nerve function.
Dr. Maia is also careful to eat a balanced diet that supports energy levels, immune function, and overall wellness in order to help her perform her best in both my personal and professional life.
