Remember how easy it was as a child? To take a bed sheet, drape it over an outdoor clothesline, enter inside and within the blink of an eye you were now residing in Taj Mahal, the White House, Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle. Enter a wooded forest and instantly you became Buffalo Bill, Lewis and Clark, Geronimo, Tarzan or Marco Polo. To take a lump of moist clay, Play-Doh or finger paint and your hands became those of Michelangelo, Picasso or Leonardo Da Vinci. Remember how easy it was to dream?
Then…the world started to beat it out of us. That ethereal, powerful, “they” told you to be “realistic,” that you couldn’t do it, that the odds were too great, that you weren’t good enough, smart enough, pretty enough or talented enough.
Unfortunately, many of us believed they were right. Slowly, we started to take our once vibrant dreams and put them away, one by one, into our storage chest. You know which one I’m talking about. The one labeled “Would’ve, Could’ve and Should’ve…But Didn’t.”
Of all the heinous human crimes in history, nothing is more dreadful and sad than watching someone live a life of quiet desperation; one of no goals or desires to be fulfilled; one of no more dreams. The most heartbreaking fact of all is the realization that dreams really do come true for anyone that believes and desires them with all of their heart! All it takes is for you to believe in you. To know that if you are a living, breathing, human being; you are truly powerful beyond measure. In her incredible book, Reflections on thePrinciples of a Course in Miracles, Marianne Williamson sums it up best when she writes:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
Your dreams are awaiting your safe return to get them. They sit there anxiously hoping and praying that you, their rightful owner, will come back to get them. All it takes is for you to go to your closet, pull out the chest, brush off the dust, and open it up…again.
You may have forgotten your dreams, however, they never forgot you. Go get ‘em.
