By Chiro One Wellness Centers
At Chiro One, we know that the chiropractic adjustment is capable of some truly amazing things—but there’s always more you can do,
right? To complement adjustments, we prescribe active therapies in all of our offices. These exercises
(and the ways they’re performed) depend on each patient’s needs and are prescribed by our doctors of chiropractic.
To take a closer look, we got together with
chiropractic director of Chiro One Oak Brook, Dr. Jill Pickens, and she broke down five of our most-prescribed therapies—detailing the possible whats, whys and hows behind each one!
Let’s take a look at one of our most popular exercises: the Precor StretchTrainer.
The StretchTrainer with Dr. Jill
Hi, guys! This is Dr. Jill at Chiro One. I’m the clinic director for our Oak Brook office. We’re going to show you a really cool piece of equipment that we use in our office called the Precor stretcher.
This piece of equipment is really nice, because it allows you to get a deep stretch on your spinal column in ways that you might not get otherwise. We have a few different stretches, and they’re all individually prescribed depending on your condition and what your doctor feels is necessary to work on at the time. We know that when we exercise these muscles in a dynamic way around the time of the adjustment, it helps your brain remember that adjustment longer.
It’s important to keep good posture while doing these exercises. It would completely change the stretch if you were to collapse and round the back out. Your doctor might prescribe this depending on what’s going on with your spine, but as a general rule of thumb, we do want to keep good posture while we’re on this piece of equipment.
We also want to make sure that we’re using the safety wrist straps on this piece of equipment, too. We definitely don’t want to let go of these and just fall back into the wall. That’s definitely not going to help our spine make any progress if we totally wipe out on the equipment, so we want to make sure we stay safe!
