A Little Bit IS Better Than Nothing
Don’t have time for a 30-minute jog or 45 minutes at the gym? You can make up for it throughout the day. Studies show that a little bit really is better than nothing. When you’ve got gaps in your day, whether it’s 15 minutes to yourself at the office or 20 before the kids get home, get moving! Take a couple rounds up and down the stairs to get your heart rate going or go for a walk around the workplace.
Multi-Task Your Way to Health
Not everything has to be done with rapt attention. For those easier exercises like stretching and walking, you can definitely be doing something else. Your phone conference button has mute for a reason… OK, we’re actually pretty sure it’s not so you can master downward-facing dog, but why not? And what’s to stop you from picking up that paperwork and walking around the neighborhood as you read it? You can do whatever you like; just make sure you stay aware of your surroundings and keep it safe.
Take the Long Way
Walking has always been and will always be a great way to get in physical activity. It can also be added a little at a time. Maybe you park farther away from your building in the morning for those extra couple steps. Maybe you take the time to walk to the bathroom farther away during your lunch break. For a lot of people, a step counter really helps. You can take a few days to measure your average amount of steps, increasing each day to see how many more you can achieve.
Get More from Your Chores
This one’s not actually much of a stretch. There are certain chores each and every week that you’ve got to do—whether that’s laundry, dishes or total house cleaning. Remember: this physical activity doesn’t go unnoticed by your body. You ARE burning calories. Plus, this is a really good mindset to have for accomplishing things you’ve been putting off. In no rush to reorganize the boxes in your crawl space? Been letting the grass get just a little too tall? There’s no better time for you, or your body, than now.
